MY LEGACY ... a poem from the Hethen collection

I have a legacy of which I am proud,
With bright smiling faces & voices loud…
Sometimes wi teeth bucking…
Sometimes wi eyes squint…
But always with sparkle.., twinkle..., and glint…

There pockets may b empty
But they’ll gie ye a wee bit…
Although sometimes they may call u
 A fuckin stupid old twit…

They may be wee bastards
But hey ho what the fuck
They may well get lucky
And shit on by a duck…

My legacy is one of origins unknown
But our hearts r true, not made of stone…
We understand what is meant by the word humane
And we ain’t no strangers 2 that known as pain…
Although often we may b called inzane…

And u may ware us down, but we don’t give a fuck
Cos in freedoms song our souls r stuck…
We know about treachery & recognize deceit
Nor r we ashamed of the dirt on our feet…

We believe in community & represent what is right
And have complete understanding of our own plight…
We r common & worthy, happy & gay
We know of the difference between shovel & spade…
We know all about the gun & the blade…
And of course how the profits of industry r made…
We r Individuals who know ‘bout the games that  r played…

We know of betrayal & ken hammer and nail…
And we know how it feels 2 carry a bail
And despite all the bullshit we r clever as well …
So u cannae defeat us cos we’ll see u in hell…

We believe & have faith in justice, honor & truth
Support 4 the elderly, the sick & our youth…
We don’t line our pockets with the strife of the weak…
Or cover our arses with more lies & deceit.

So you can keep us in poverty
And tell us we’re bad…
And try to brainwash us to thinking we’re mad …
And definitely drive us to feeling real sad…
But you can’t take our souls, though u may take our lives
Cos 2 freedoms song there’s an A & B side….

On which mother earth & old father moon
Sing along with us, 2the sun…freedoms tune…
& the stars join the chorus in triumphant refrain…
& the trees join in dancing with the wind & the rain…
& all of our souls in freedom rejoice…
Cos freedoms song has a very loud voice…
& it’s all about choice…
In which there’s a fire enlightening the spirit
With the warmth of the common people whose hearts are in it…
